In general, painting the interior of your house is much easier compared to painting the exterior because the interior walls are shorter, hence require less work on ladders. Interior are much smoother and have similar surfaces. Paints made of the interior are usually manufactured with the normal room temperature and humidity in mind.  If you live near the East Dallas area you know what I'm talking about regarding humility.  East Dallas can get very humid and painting your interior or exterior in damp weather should be done correctly.  You will have to make some modifications to the interior for you to do a good paint job. The working conditions of an interior are more stable and experience fewer fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Nevertheless, interior painting in damp weather can cause problems. For water to evaporate from the paint, there have to be favorable conditions inside the painted room. The more the temperature falls, the more time the paint takes to cure. Therefore, you need to be well prepared and make all the necessary arrangements, check your paint for instructions concerning temperature and humidity, and test the paint on other surfaces before you begin your interior painting in damp weather.

Paint Preparation

The preparation stage for painting in a damp weather is much more involving than the normal painting preparation. First, you need to create a conducive environment for the paint to cure well after painting. Start by closing all the windows and doors and seal all other openings which might let in moisture. It is critical to note that as you will be painting, you will need to protect yourself from the paint fumes. Make proper arrangements so that you will be able to take frequent breaks to get some fresh air.

You will also have to do the normal painting preparations by scraping off loose paint from the walls, filling in cracks, sanding and cleaning the whole surface to be painted. Remove the furniture away from the wall, cover them, and protect the flooring by spreading a plastic sheet over the floor.

Follow manufacturer's instructions

When dealing with damp weather, it is important to check the paint for instructions from the paint manufacturer. Specifically, look for instructions concerning temperature, humidity application and conditions for proper paint curing. Using a reliable weather information source, check the current weather outside as well as several hours forecast before you start painting. Extreme weather conditions outside can affect the temperatures and humidity inside the house. So, if the weather conditions outside is too extreme, then it is most important that you postpone the painting project for some time

Acclimate the room

Whenever the air is warm and dry, the paint will dry quickly and constantly than when it is cold and humid. When you are painting your interior, be sure to warm up the air by turning on the heater. You can also run the fan from the air ventilator into the room to push the warm air in and the cool air out. To keep the humidity in the room low, you can introduce a dehumidifier especially when the paint is taking longer than expected to dry.

Use Specially Designed Products

Since you are dealing with a unique situation, select paint and painting products that are specially designed to be used together, products that are made to be applied easily and are engineered to perform well in cold humid weather. These products include the paint, caulks, fillers and primers. Make sure that these products are compatible. Otherwise, you are going to experience poor inter-coat adhesion and a lot of performance failures that leads to painting defects.  You should also use cold weather coatings that are specifically designed to be used in low temperatures without thinning. Do not add anything to the paint such as antifreeze or any other alien substances it the paint. Ensure that the products you have chosen for painting a particular room are specially formulated to adhere to the surfaces you intend to apply them on. Consider the texture and the materials used to make the walls.

After taking all these tips into consideration, you can now do the rest of the painting procedure in a similar way to painting your interior surfaces in the normal room temperatures and humidity. Remember that painting in a damp weather requires extra preparation, equipment, and different painting products. Here is information on best paints by consumer goods.  You have to prepare for the painting project in various ways including the usual painting preparation for normal paintings. Since different manufacturers have different formulas for their paint, it is imperative that you read, comprehend, and apply all the instructions given especially the ones that concerns painting the interior in damp weather. You will need to introduce heaters, fans and dehumidifiers to acclimate the room you want to paint. All these are to ensure uniform painting and curing. Lastly, consider buying painting products that easily bond together and are specially manufactured for application in damp weather.
